Drag Me to Hell

I’m by no means a fan of horror. But in recent years I’ve become quite fond of Sam Raimi, or at least of Bruce Campbell who is the fire whom Raimi’s smoke is never without. Then there’s the whole Ellen Page thing. And by ‘thing’ I mean me being completely infatuated by her and anyone who isn’t is out of their mind.

So I guess all summed up what I’m trying to say is that Drag Me to Hell, appalling as that title sounds, may be the rare horror movie to draw my attention. I’d also like to point out that Empire‘s continued use of that same promotional shot of Page is doing nothing to help diminish my… enthusiasm for her.

Anyone want to buy…

Does anyone want to buy an iPod Touch? Apple just announced a 32GB model, which would actually be enough to store all of my music and a fair few movies. I’d shell out the additional €100 on the price-tag without question, but I don’t think the full asking price of $499 (presumably €499 when it shows up on the Apple Ireland store) is reasonable when I already have the 16GB model.

Why oh why must companies continue to make better products?

Microsoft Offers to Buy Yahoo!

According to BBC News, Microsoft has offered over $44b for Yahoo! I’d hate to see this go through, because I still think Yahoo! has some people capable of making significant contributions to the Web, and the only significant contributions I see from Microsoft are roadblocks and hurdles to the overall development of the Web.

Someone suggested Google should park a trailer outside Yahoo!’s offices to interview their engineers, with the suggestion that they can either stay where they are and learn to use Microsoft’s tools or they can come work with us on something more fun.

The worst part of all of this is the prospect that I might have to switch to using Picassa.

Obviously the standard disclaimer applies here. None of this is the opinion of Google, the bit about the interview trailer is a joke, Google has made no statement on the subject yet, if they do it won’t be through this blog (ha!), and so on…

New O2 Prepay Deal

I was quite late on the bandwagon to switch from O2 to Meteor as my mobile phone network. By the time I joined, most of my friends were already on Meteor, so I got the immediate benefit of the deal to send unlimited free texts to other Meteor customers. Now this (emphasis mine):

O2 Ireland has launched a new price plan for pre-pay mobile users. O2 Experience enables subscribers to send unlimited free texts to any other Irish mobile network, at any time, for life. Customers that aren’t heavy text users can also opt for free calls for life to their top 10 friends on O2 instead. Subscribers must top up by EUR20 per month in order to avail of the price plan. Additionally, there’s an option to avail of free calls and texts to 10 nominated O2 numbers for customers who top up by EUR30 per month. The three options with the new price plan are available to new and existing customers who sign up by 30 April 2008.

As I highlighted, this is similar to Meteor’s deal except that it isn’t limited to texts on the same network. Hopefully Meteor will respond with their own deal. Failing that, it’s a very simple matter to switch networks here.
